Patient Schumacher targets another title
22 July 2010
Michael Schumacher may not been in contention for the championship this year although the 7-time World Champion is determined to pick up an eighth world crown in 2011, before his current contract with Mercedes comes to an end after 2012.
Mathematically, Schumacher is not out of the running this season – 109 points behind World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton with a maximum of 225 still up for grabs – although the German, preparing to contest his home Grand Prix in a silver arrow for the first time this weekend, has high expectations for next year.
“When I came back the aim was to win another title,” he said without hesitation on Thursday. “That's what I'm here for, very clearly; I know the final target and where I want to go and I'm confident that I can achieve it.”
Schumacher won his last race at Hockenheim in 2006 Having admitted to BBC Sport at Silverstone that he must ‘raise his game’, aware that that team-mate Nico Rosberg has scored over double his sum of points, Schumacher also described his first half of 2010.
“I'm not perfectly happy with my own performance,” he admitted. “There is an expectation out there which is impossible to meet (with the current car), but I'm not a magician - I just need time and I will take my time.”

Just minutes after Ducati sent out a press release confirming that Casey Stoner would part company with the team at the end of the current season, Repsol Honda has revealed that the Australian will be joining the squad for at least one year. The team also hopes to retain Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso in what it hopes to be a 'truly formidable line-up'.
Honda also hopes to keep its current two riders for 2011 With Ducati having announced on Friday morning that it would go its separate ways from their 2007 Champion rider at the end of the year, Honda revealed its latest signing just a short time later.
“We are very pleased that Casey will join Honda again next year,” said Shuhei Nakamoto, Vice President of the Honda Racing Corporation. “Clearly he is one of the top riders in MotoGP and he will bring valuable speed and experience to our team.
“In the factory Honda squad we already have two very strong and experienced riders in Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso, who are performing very well and currently hold second and third positions in the 2010 World Championship. HRC hopes also to retain these two riders for next year - giving us what would be a truly formidable line-up.”

Audi repeats: No interest in Formula 1Audi repeats: No interest in Formula 1
Audi is not planning to be Formula 1’s second German manufacturer alongside Mercedes-Benz, the Ingolstadt-based company has stressed. The news quashes rumours in the country’s press that the company may be considering the move. At present, just two car manufacturers are involved in F1 in their own right – Mercedes and Fiat, with the latter racing under its Ferrari marque; despite hearsay, Audi wishes to reiterate that it will not be seen on the grid alongside them.
Audi believes Le Mans is a more appropriate showcase for its technologies “We believe Formula 1 is not suitable for Audi - at least not with the technology it currently uses, which has no relevance to the development of our production vehicles,” Wolfgang Ullrich, head of Audi Motorsport, explained to German press agency SID.
Although word has already been killed off in the recent past, Audi’s superb 1-2-3 result in last month’s Le Mans 24 Hour race has sparked off speculation once again.
“Besides the fact that we still have to win at least seven more times to get to the top of the all-time Le Mans victories table, we still see Le Mans as the best platform to test and demonstrate new technologies in motorsport,” Ullrich added. “It’s more authentic than any other type of racing.”

Formula One's feeder series GP2 announced on Thursday evening it signed an agreement with tyre manufacturer Pirelli. Pirelli will become the series' official supplier starting from 2011. Pirelli currently supplies the GP3 series and will become F1's official supplier next season too. Few days after having been chosen by the FIA as Formula One’s sole supplier (2011-2013),Pirelli has reached a similar deal with GP2 to supply this Series as well. Furthermore, GP2 will conduct some development work for Pirelli.
GP2 Series organiser Bruno Michel said: “I am delighted that we have signed Pirelli as GP2 tyre supplier for the coming seasons. Following their deal in F1, it was natural for Pirelli to join GP2 as well. Our Series’ philosophy is to prepare young drivers who aspire to get to Formula One and having the same tyre supplier guarantees a continuity in their experience and therefore a great bonus for them. We have started our working relationship with Pirelli this year in the GP3 Series and so far, it has been a success. I am looking forward to develop an excellent relationship with them also in GP2.”
Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery added: “GP2 is the acknowledged stepping stone to Formula one and it was our wish to become part of its success story. Following our agreement for the inaugural GP3 Series and with F1, adding GP2 to our activities make us the single supplier to all the most prestigious racing championships in the world from 2011.”
